The Thompsons Group is on a recruitment drive as its brand-new factory at Dunfermline starts producing bodies for the construction, waste and recycling sectors.

Joint managing director Simon Shields told Transport News that the company will be recruiting across the board, including for roles in administration, management, supervision, welding, electrical work, painting and general labouring.

“We will have around 30 employees moving from the old factory to the new one and over a period of time we will require an additional 60 staff,” he confirmed.

The manufacturer has built a major 225,000sq ft factory at Fife Interchange North, Dunfermline, having relocated from its former base at Royal Elizabeth Yard in Kirkliston.

Recruitment is expected to continue over the next 18 months as the company builds towards full production capacity, Shields explained.

“We will continue to offer apprenticeships for the next generation to come into the business,” he said.

From the new site, Thompsons will manufacture its full range of products, including construction, utility, waste and specialist bodies. The facility will also provide aftersales support and parts supply.

The company already have factories in Blackburn, Croydon and Dover.

Thompsons Group is also exhibiting at RTX Scotland, which takes place at the SEC in Glasgow on 18-19 November 2026.
