End of the road for James S Hislop Haulage after 38 years

by | Oct 12, 2026 | Hot News

Family-run transport business James S Hislop (Haulage Contractors) has ceased trading after 38 years in business.

Based in Swinton in the Scottish Borders, the business was founded in 1988 by Jim Hislop and has been led by his son, Alan Hislop, since 2019.

The company was a familiar name at truck shows and regularly supported local road runs and charity events, earning recognition within the road transport community.

James S Hislop (Haulage Contractors) held an operator’s licence authorising the operation of 28 trucks and 45 trailers.

Its closure marks another difficult moment for Scotland’s road haulage industry, with several established names ceasing trading in recent times, including Coille Transport, CCH Transport, AAD Transport, David Murray Transport and VG Mathers.

The loss of a family-run business with almost four decades of history will be felt by those who knew the Hislop family and the company through their involvement in the industry and local community.

Both Hislop Commercial Vehicle Services (HCVS) and Hislop Storage continue to trade.
