GXO drivers working on the Howdens contract in Bellshill have secured an inflation-beating pay rise, writes Carol Millett.

The news was confirmed by the union Unite, which said around 30 drivers delivering Howdens kitchens from the GXO distribution hub have secured a record pay increase, backdated to April.

The one-year deal includes a 5% pay rise.

In addition, all breaks will now be paid. Unite said this is worth a further 5.5%, taking the overall pay increase to 10.5%.

The union also estimates that the drivers’ overall pay package has increased by up to 30% over the past three years, following Unite’s recognition by the workforce in November 2023.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “This is another excellent deal for GXO drivers at Bellshill.

“It demonstrates the benefits of being a Unite member as we continue to drive up the standard of jobs, pay and conditions for our driver membership.”
