Certas Energy has expanded access to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) in western Scotland by adding the renewable diesel alternative to its Oban depot, as part of a nationwide programme to make the fuel available at more locations across the UK.
The expansion was announced at Road Transport Expo, where Certas Energy renewable fuels expert Sam Allen will join a panel discussion on low-carbon trucking and the benefits of switching to HVO.
Certas Energy began trialling HVO within its own fleet five years ago before rolling the fuel out more widely across its operations. The company says its experience has enabled it to support customers seeking a lower-emission alternative to diesel.
Cathy Bailey, energy transition manager at Certas Energy, said: “The net zero conversation has changed. Businesses still want to act, but they need solutions that work commercially, operationally and at scale. That’s where HVO plays a critical role.
“By continuing to invest in HVO, we give customers the confidence and capability to act now, while the wider energy transition continues to evolve.”
According to the Department for Transport, UK consumption of HVO reached 408 million litres during the first 10 months of 2025.
