Stena Line has announced a significant investment of approximately £14 million in the ongoing refit and upgrade of its Irish Sea fleet, writes Peter Brown.
The operator’s Irish Sea fleet comprises 11 vessels serving key routes, including Belfast–Cairnryan, Belfast–Birkenhead (Liverpool), Belfast–Heysham, Dublin–Birkenhead, Dublin–Holyhead, and Rosslare–Fishguard.
This extensive network plays a vital role in connecting communities, supporting passenger travel, and enabling the efficient movement of freight across the region.
The investment programme will focus on modernising onboard facilities, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing environmental performance, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to the Irish Sea corridor.
Fleet manager Mark Scouler said: “By upgrading and modernising our vessels, we are ensuring that Stena Line maintains its leading position in the Irish Sea freight and travel market. We are committed to ongoing investment in our fleet to deliver a high-quality, more sustainable service for all our customers.”
The refit initiative forms part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen capacity, improve reliability, and meet evolving customer and regulatory expectations in one of Europe’s busiest ferry markets.
