The latest electric trucks unveiled by Volvo Trucks offer ranges of up to 435 miles on a single charge, writes Peter Brown.
Among them is the new long-distance FH Aero Electric, a 6×2 configuration with a tag axle, designed specifically for long-haul and intercity transport.
It features an advanced e-axle that integrates two electric motors and a six-speed gearbox into the rear axle, freeing up valuable chassis space to accommodate additional batteries and extend range.
Using the Megawatt Charging System, the truck can reach up to 80% charge in as little as 50 minutes, while the Combined Charging System takes up to 85 minutes.
The president of Volvo Trucks Roger Alm said: “We are expanding our portfolio, making electric solutions viable for a broader range of transport assignments, while also introducing a cutting-edge electric truck with a range of up to 700 km. This means we can fully meet the business needs of our customers.”
Also included in the soft launch are updated FH, FM and FMX models, offering ranges of up to 292 miles. Roger Alm added that these vehicles will deliver “maximum flexibility across a wide variety of applications”.
