Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a ‘safety truck’ concept based on the eActros 600, showcasing a suite of newly developed safety systems, writes George Barrow.

The safety truck includes the latest generation automatic emergency braking, moving-off information system, blind spot information system and traffic sign assist.

The systems are designed to meet the latest EU General Safety Regulation (GSR) and exceed the current standards in readiness for updates to GSR in 2026 and beyond.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has developed a new electronics platform for the eActros 600 and Actros L which combines camera and radar data to detect other vehicles and vulnerable road users to the front and side of the vehicle. Six radar sensors around the truck plus a camera in the windshield have a 270 degree view around the vehicle.

In February 2026, active brake assist 6 will be replaced with active brake assist 6 plus which is Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ advanced emergency braking system. The system can react to pedestrians crossing, approaching or walking in the lane and cyclists. Automated braking can bring the truck to a standstill from speeds up to 60km/h.

Second generation attention assist technology will also be available from February 2026. Attention assist 2 monitors the driver with an infrared camera to detect inattention or tiredness. The system is active from 60km/h and above and will reactivate lane keeping if it is turned off following an attention assist warning.

Rainer Müller-Finkeldei, head of product development at Mercedes-Benz Trucks said: “We have been investing in research and development for many years in order, among other things, to provide drivers with even better support in their daily work with assistance systems and to further increase the safety of road users.

“With the new safety truck, we are underlining our commitment to continuing to drive forward the development of systems that will make the vision of accident-free driving a reality.”
