All About The Truck: New Products, New Markets And Awarding Winning

It’s been a busy month for truck manufacturers with MAN introducing a new addition to its eTGL line up, Ford Trucks announcing plans to enter the UK market and DAF claiming the International Truck of the Year award.

MAN has unveiled a new variant of its all-electric eTGL, developed specifically for refrigerated box bodies and aimed at temperature-controlled urban and regional distribution.

The 12-tonne chassis now supports a high-voltage interface that powers the fridge unit directly from the truck’s electrical system, improving efficiency and avoiding the weight penalties of separate power supplies. The addition means MAN now offers a fully electric refrigerated logistics line-up from 12 to 42 tonnes, spanning the eTGL, eTGS and eTGX ranges.

The eTGL’s two battery packs provide a usable capacity of 160kWh and a range of up to 310km without intermediate charging, depending on body and duty cycle. Fast charging from 10% to 80% takes around 35 minutes, allowing operators to extend the daily range to as much as 600km during normal breaks and unloading windows.

Ford Trucks has confirmed that it will enter the UK and Irish markets with right-hand-drive F-Max models in 2028, followed by 6×2 variants in early 2029, as part of a gradual but deliberate rollout strategy. The Turkish manufacturer has already established an 11-site aftersales network across both countries, but full sales will not begin until right-hand-drive production is under way.

DAF Trucks has taken top honours at this year’s International Truck of the Year (IToY) awards, with its new XD and XF Electric models crowned International Truck of the Year 2026. The announcement was made during the International Awards Gala Night at the Solutrans trade fair in Lyon, France, where DAF president Harald Seidel accepted the trophy in front of more than 1,300 guests.

It is the third time DAF has triumphed with its New Generation range, following victories for the XF, XG and XG+ in 2022 and the XD in 2023, once again bringing the trophy back to Eindhoven. The company’s heavy-duty electric series secured 92 points from the 24-member jury, finishing ahead of MAN’s diesel-powered D30 PowerLion and China’s Sany e435, the first Chinese-built truck ever shortlisted for Europe’s most prestigious commercial vehicle award.
