British commercial vehicle bodybuilder Econ Engineering has kicked of what is believed to be the first ‘Gritter Driver of the Year’ campaign, writes Peter Brown.
Econ Engineering builds gritter bodies and snowploughs and currently has a hire fleet of 1,200 vehicles.
From its own research, it found that around one in four Brits said there were no crucial winter jobs, with just 9% recognising the importance of gritter drivers.
Gritter drivers work gruelling shifts both day and night, and last year alone, Econ gritters cleared 247,800 miles of roads.
To celebrate and recognise the hard work put in by gritter driver to keep the roads open, Econ has launched The Grit and Glory Awards, a brand-new search to crown the UK’s Gritter Driver of the Year.
