JOHN Mitchell Haulage & Warehousing has put its first Volvo trucks into operation with two FH tractor units operating from its Grangemouth site.
Iain Mitchell, managing director, said the company trialled an FH500 demonstration vehicle with an I-Shift dual clutch gearbox for a week, last year. ‘It’s specification was not quite right for us,’ he explained, ‘however, Sean Merrick (Volvo’s transport solutions executive) persisted and he suggested an FH build that was a closer match without the dual clutch.’
The second trial proved successful. Both the ADR specification FH500s are specified with I-Shift gearboxes, Long Haul Fuel Plus packages and 2.47:1 rear axle ratios, while the Globetrotter cabs come with leather seats and trims in addition to Drive Plus packages.
