THE NEW Actros from Mercedes-Benz has taken International Truck of the Year 2020 (IToY) title, fending off challenges from Iveco with its new S-Way and Volvo Trucks’ FH I-Save.
Success was thanks to various ‘technological advances’ made by the manufacturer, according to IToY chair Gianenrico Griffini.
These include the MirrorCam camera system that has replaced conventional exterior rear view mirrors, Active Drive Assist system, Multimedia Cockpit and Powertrain control.
‘With the introduction of the new Actros, Mercedes-Benz has delivered a state-of-the-art, heavy duty truck, which paves the way towards autonomous diving vehicles in the future,’ he says.
The IToY jury is made up of 24 CV editors and journalists from trucking magazines across Europe, including Will Shiers, editor of Transport News’ sister title Commercial Motor.
