THE EUROPEAN Commission has committed €60 million to improving safe and secure truck parking areas (SSTPAs) across Europe. The investment will include development of new SSTPAs approximately every 100km along the TEN-T core road network on the continent, with additional upgrades to the safety, security and services of existing rest areas. Safe and secure parking is one of the biggest concerns facing the commercial transport industry today, contributing greatly to the growing driver shortage, says IRU.
