PAYMENT of roadside enforcement fines is set to get quicker and more efficient thanks to a new payment portal, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has announced.
The portal, which allows drivers to nominate someone else (such as their employer) to pay fines, replaced Chip & PIN payments at DVSA’s enforcement sites from 29 January 2019.
DVSA head of enforcement policy Gordon MacDonald explained: ‘When drivers receive a fine, they will provide a telephone number or email address. A link to the payment portal and a unique code will then be sent by either text message or email. Following the link and entering the code allows payment of any outstanding fines DVSA enforcement staff may have issued.
‘This system will allow drivers to nominate their employers to pay fines directly instead of carrying credit cards or money with them while driving. Anyone nominated by the driver will be able to pay fines anywhere using this system. It also means fines can be paid without a member of DVSA staff present to take payment, allowing staff to work more flexibly.’
DVSA’s roadside enforcement staff can issue fixed penalties (ie. fines) for a range of offences including drivers’ hours offences; overweight vehicles; mechanical defects; unpaid vehicle levy.
