The Gregory Group has acquired John Mitchell (Grangemouth) for an undisclosed sum, writes Peter Brown.
John Mitchell started the business in 1956 with one second hand Albion lorry operating from Grangemouth next to Scotland’s largest port and today employs 200 people and runs more than 150 trucks and 230 trailers..
This deal ‘brings opportunities for Gregory Group customers to benefit from container haulage expertise and the potential of the Forth Green Freeport’, the Devon-based company said in a statement.
Ross Mitchell is the third generation of the family to run the business, taking over from his father Iain Mitchell who will step down from his role as chairman.
Ross is now the operations director. He said: “We have built up a very successful business over the last seven decades and with Gregory Group’s scale and expertise, I know our brand is in safe hands moving forward.
“I very much look forward to sharing our expertise with the wider Gregory network, whilst also utilising that network to support our existing customers.”
John Gregory, CEO of Gregory Group, said: “Founded in 1956, John Mitchell (Grangemouth) is the fifth Scottish business to join our Group and the team bring with them the same strong reputation, partnership approach and family values that we hold accountable for our success.
“Many of their customers have been with them for 20-30 years so we know they are delivering the visionary logistics our customers have come to expect.”
Gregory Group has been in a joint venture with Hayton Coulthard since 2010, and it acquired ARR Craib in 2018 and then Pollock in 2021.
