EU Seeks New Truck Weight Limits For Zero Emission Trucks

EU agrees to new weight limits for net zero trucks, moving up from 40 to 44 tonnes GVW.

The European Parliament wants to enhance Weights and Dimensions Directive rules moving from an initial 40-tonne heavy-goods gross vehicle combination weight limit to 44 tonnes for zero-emission vehicles after 2034.

This proposal is part of the policy to help phase out diesel-fuelled trucks, and to ensure that zero-emission vehicles can be used on ‘a level playing field’ despite carrying bigger batteries to match the range of vehicles with internal combustion engines.

It still needs to be approved by the European Parliament.
