Trucks where operators extended service life through the pandemic and to meet extended lead times are now entering the used truck marketplace, reports Steve Banner.
DEMAND for used tractor units has dropped sharply, with fleet specification models hit especially hard, dealers report. Prices have suffered as a result in a swift reversal of fortunes, they add.
“Over the past six months the values of 67/68 plate units have fallen from well over £20,000 and even above £30,000 in some cases to closer to £14,000 to £18,000,” said Chris Thornton, used truck sales manager, Pennines region, at DAF dealership Motus Commercials Barnsley.
Another dealer remarked: “There are a lot of them out there and you can’t give them away. There’s no demand for fleet models and not a vast amount of interest in higher specification units either.”
