It’s been a meteoric rise for Jordan Bell and his Northern Metal Recycling company, as he explains to Lucy Radley.
AT JUST four years old, Northern Metal Recycling is one of the newer kids on the County Durham block, but it’s by no means new to the industry.
Director Jordan Bell had been working in the scrap metal and demolition sectors for many years before deciding to go it alone. “My team and I had always been dealing in scrap and brokering it,” he explained. “Then we decided to open a yard, so we had a base, and took the job by storm!”
That’s not just talk, by any means. Jordan Bell started in 2019 with one yard in the small town of Shildon, and two second-hand trucks to ferry metal in and out. Now his company has 10 vehicles, a second yard further north near Stanley, and plans to take on a third depot down in Yorkshire just as soon as the right place is found.
“We buy a lot from other merchants who run directly into us, as do more local customers,” Jordan said. “But 80% of what we do is business to business, providing factories with metal skips.”
