Ian Legg is the new group MD of Wm Armstrong and his remit is growth from the local area in Cumbria to national growth. Lucy Radley finds out more.
WM ARMSTRONG of Longtown, Cumbria, is a familiar name to most, as well it might be, the company has been around since 1927. A third generation, family owned business, it has diversified a great deal over time, and is now aiming to progress to a whole new level, an ambition which has brought a new face to the table too.
“As part of our growth strategy, the group board took the decision to recruit from outside the business to a board level position,” Jennifer Whyberd, group chairman told us. “At the start of 2022 Ian Legg joined Armstrongs as group managing director, the first person to join the board from outside the family.”
His remit is fairly straightforward, but at the same time somewhat ambitious, to take the business forward and grow it from being a very strong regional player, into a UK-wide contender in all areas.
