PRIME Minister Boris Johnson has strongly suggested that, emanating from Sir Peter Hendy’s Union Connectivity Review,
the busy A75 Euroroute that links Cairnryan with the M6 will be ‘upgraded to offer higher capacity, and people will not have too long to wait either.’
Arguably the A75 is of major strategic importance in linking the UK motorway network with Northern Ireland. It is also often the preferred choice for hauliers moving goods from Cairnryan to Glasgow and Central Scotland due to the poor quality of the alternative A77 ‘trunk road’ south of Girvan.
Another reason for the A75 upgrade centres on the possibility of a future bridge link between Dumfries and Galloway and Northern Ireland, currently predicted to cost £40 billion.
