UBCivils Reduces Paperwork With Podfather

Highland-based civil engineering company UBCivils has adopted Podfather software to overhaul the way it handles haulage logistics, writes Peter Brown.

The shift has dramatically cut down its paperwork. UBCivils manages around 100 vehicle movements daily through Podfather, using the platform for route optimisation, live tracking and digital proof of delivery.

Since introducing the system, the company reports a steep drop in paper usage and a marked improvement in the accuracy of its operational records.

“Prior to using Podfather, everything was done on paper,” explained contract manager Iain Peteranna. “Delivery tickets often had to be duplicated and, with some of our projects located in very remote areas, paperwork would take even longer to complete and return to the office for processing.”

The firm first learned about Podfather through one of its subcontracted hauliers and recognised that major suppliers such as Breedon and Tarmac already used the software. However, UBCivils wanted to ensure it was the right fit before committing.

According to the company, the software has also brought greater transparency to the haulage process and the performance of service partners.

“Any system that can save staff hours is hugely valuable and makes a real difference to the business,” he noted.

“Podfather has done exactly what it said it would. It met our expectations, and now we’re exploring additional uses — from managing plant and equipment movements, to deeper integration with back-office tools like invoicing, and even potential vehicle checks.”

UBCivils works alongside trusted third-party hauliers and depends on a range of assets including tippers, HIAB units and low-loader vehicles.
