In the current issue of Transport News is the show report from the inaugural RTX Scotland, held at the SEC in Glasgow, writes Peter Brown.
From the truck manufacturers to the service providers and those in the Knowledge Zone, the first show ticked all the boxes.
With more than 68 exhibitors across the two-day show (19-20 November 2025) there was also a strong footfall from the road haulage industry in Scotland.
The decision to bring the RTX brand to Scotland was welcomed by the cabinet secretary for transport. Fiona Hyslop MSP said she recognised that road haulage in Scotland was one of the most vital industries in the Scottish economy. “It is an industry that keeps our shelves stocked, gets our goods to market and keeps our communities connected,” she said.
“This industry continues to face significant challenges, from addressing the ongoing shortage of drivers to navigating the impacts of Brexit and meeting the demands of decarbonisation.
“Logistics is at the forefront of some of the most pressing issues of our time, and these challenges are complex, but they are not insurmountable.
“They require collaboration, innovation and above all, a shared commitment to securing a sustainable future for this vital sector and the climate crisis is perhaps the biggest challenge of our age, and as we work towards Scotland’s ambitious target of becoming a net zero nation by 2045.”
Decarbonisation was also a theme running through the presentations in the Knowledge Zone. Dr Isabella Panovic, the programme manager at Innovate UK, facilitating the delivery of Innovate UK and the Department for Transport’s £200 million Zero Emission HGV & Infrastructure Demonstrator programme, spoke at length about the project.
Meanwhile, M&H Carriers MD Fraser McLean and the director of Gregory Group Scotland Malcolm Wilde discussed their role in delivering decarbonisation in their respective fleets.
Acting traffic commissioner for Scotland Richard Turfitt delivered a keynote address and there was also a keenly anticipated Freight Crime and Safer Parking seminar. A presentation from field intelligence officer from the freight desk at National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service Mike Dawber sparked a lively debate from the panel.
