Fleet In Focus: G&J Jack

by | Dec 18, 2025 | Hot News

The origins of Fraserburgh-based fish merchant G&J Jack are remarkable considering it has grown into a business that exports around 60 tonnes of top-quality seafood to Europe every week.

Freelancer Emma Penny headed to the Broch to speak with the Jack family about its fleet of trucks, the challenges of exporting into Europe and how the business was founded.

In the 1930s it was Bessie Jack who got things moving; carrying creel on her back to local farms to trade produce and to sell, using the proceeds to support her seven children and to buy more fish to process.

When one of Bessie’s sons was demobbed from the RAF at the end of World War II, he took over Bessie’s fish round and bought a van to do it.

Today, current fleet includes three top-spec DAF XG+ tractor units, two XD 340 4×2 rigids with refrigerated bodies and a DAF rigid curtainsider.
