Warburtons Spends The Dough To Order Two Yutong TE7 Electric Trucks

Bakery giant Warburtons has placed an order for two Yutong TE7 battery electric trucks following a successful trial, writes Peter Brown.

This represents the first step by the UK’s largest bakery brand towards electrifying its 170-strong 7.5 tonne fleet.

The vehicles, which are due to enter service in early 2026, form the first stage of Warburtons’ plan to decarbonise its entire 7.5 tonne operation by 2030.

Both trucks will be based at the company’s Wakefield depot and used on local and regional deliveries of fresh products. Warburtons has opted for the 132kWh version, which offers a claimed range of up to 180 miles.

Steven Gray, head of transport at Warburtons, said the business’s long relationship with Pelican Engineering gave confidence in the product and support package, adding: “We are delighted to have confirmed our first orders of the Yutong TE7.”

Pelican has also confirmed that the TE7 has been approved for the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Plug in Truck Grant, allowing qualifying customers to save up to £16,000.

Electric truck sales manager David Watts said securing grant eligibility removes a key cost barrier and strengthens the TE7’s position in the increasingly competitive electric 7.5 tonne market.

Pelican reports sustained interest from fleet operators since the TE7’s launch, with further trials scheduled for later this year.
