The managing director of Maxi Haulage Alan Miles has retired after 29 years, writes Peter Brown.
News of his retirement was first revealed in the summer when Maxi Haulage announced its year end results. Chairman Gerry Atkinson said: “Under his leadership, the company has grown to a turnover of £80 million and has achieved great success.
“It has been recognised for providing fantastic customer service, combining efficiency with economy and added value and the developing a large business across Great Britian and Ireland. We wish him a very happy retirement.
“Alan’s expertise in road haulage and shipping is recognised as industry leading. Coupled with his great management ability and personnel training has led to a fantastic career at the Maxi Group during our market leading development.
“He is extremely respected and popular throughout logistic industry in Great Britain and Ireland and will be greatly missed.
“Alan always presents a happy, positive, helpful outlook. Always focused on solving problems not creating them, making him popular in his business dealings at all levels. Alan will continue to contribute as a part time consultant.”
The group deputy chairman Richard Atkinson confirmed that succession planning is firmly in place.
Gerry added: “Our strong and experienced management team will ensure continued success and will continue to grow the Haulage and Warehousing businesses following Alan’s retirement.
“Alan has shared in retirement he plans to write a book about growing up in Belfast in the 1970s reflecting on the impact his father’s murder has had on his life.”
