Two freight forwarding companies have joined forces to provide a weekly cargo service between Scotland and Portugal, writes Peter Brown.
Davies Turner and the Torrestir Group are now working together to establish import and export services to offer operational efficiency across the supply chain.
There is one direct trailer per week between Portugal and Scotland, Davies Turner confirmed, connecting Torrestir’s logistics hubs in Lisbon and Porto with direct links to five of Davies Turner’s UK regional hubs; Cumbernauld, Birmingham, Bristol, London and Manchester.
Davies Turner has operated out of Scotland since the 1980s, and moved into its current site in Cumbernauld in 2007, where they extended the warehouse in 2017.
It delivers and collects across Scotland, and runs a fleet of four rigids and an articulated lorry that focuses on container haulage from the port/rail terminal, as well as trunked deliveries heading up the road.
The services will offer full load, part load, and express options, using curtainsider and box trailer vehicles according to cargo requirements.
Jason Edwards, director of Davies Turner & Co, said: “This partnership with Torrestir reflects our commitment to continued investment in high-quality, reliable European logistics solutions.
“By partnering with a well-established and reputable independent forwarder, we are reinforcing our commitment to service excellence and delivering seamless freight solutions for our customers.”
Hélder Silva is the managing director of Torrestir Transitários. “This transformation will raise our service standards in groupage and open new opportunities in the LTL market,” he said.
“Together with our partner, we are expanding into the ADR market for the carriage of dangerous and hazardous goods by road. This represents a significant opportunity, particularly in imports, and aligns with our strategy for growth and innovation.”
