Waste management has changed a tad since Neil Sharp’s father started the predecessor to EIS Waste Services more than 50 years ago.
Freelancer Emma Penny headed to Aberdeen to catch up with Neil and discuss the challenges it and the waste management sector faces.
Challenges include the pending Scottish Government-imposed ban on landfill for most types of waste coming into force on 1 Jan 2026, coupled with its decision not to allow construction of any more Energy from Waste (EfW) plants which burn waste to produce heat and electricity.
Then there are the new wagons on the fleet. Three new Volvos joined the fleet in March, including a FH500 8×4 tridem axle hooklift with triaxle trailer. An FM460 4×2 skiploader with triaxle trailer and FE350 6×2 rear end loader refuse vehicle completed the order.
The deal to secure the Volvo trucks was handled by Volvo Truck and Bus North and Scotland’s transport solutions executive Kevin Fraser.
