A landfill ban due at the end of the year will see ‘up to 100 truckloads’ of waste cross the border into England, reports BBC Scotland’s Disclosure.
Disclosure is a current affairs series examining the issues affecting the lives of people around Scotland.
It said experts predicted that ‘truckloads of Scotland’s rubbish will be sent to England’ once the Scottish government bans ‘black bag’ waste from being buried in landfill.
The claim from experts is because of low recycling rates for cardboard, plastic and glass and not having enough incinerators to burn the waste generated.
Scottish ministers said any export of waste should only be viewed as a ‘short-term solution’, in a reply to the BBC.
