Where attempts by startup businesses to launch a new battery electric rigid truck into a competitive European market have failed, can established Chinese manufacturer Yutong succeed, asks Kevin Swallow.

Yutong’s official unveiling of its TE7 7.5 tonne truck took place in Castleford at Pelican Engineering, a DAF and MAN service agent who signed up with Yutong more than 10 years ago to bring buses and coaches to the UK.

Boss Richard Crump said the TE7 is both affordable and competitive in terms of range and payload.

And newly appointed UK sales manager David Watts also pointed to Pelican Engineering’s experience with Yutong, as they have just sold their 2,000th passenger vehicle.
