A court heard how a lorry driver who had taken cocaine killed a pedestrian as he crossed the road, writes Peter Brown.
The incident took place in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, on 19 December 2023, when Robert Shirra-Gibb was fatally struck by a lorry driven by Edward Feelie who had failed to stop at a red light resulting in the fatal accident.
Robert Shirra-Gibb suffered catastrophic injuries, including severe pelvic, chest, and back trauma, as well as a brain bleed, and was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he died the following day.
The subsequent investigation discovered that Edward Feelie had six times the legal limit of cocaine in his bloodstream at the time of the crash.
He was arrested and later pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at the High Court in Glasgow.
The judge, Lord Arthurson, remanded him in custody and adjourned sentencing until next month in Edinburgh.
