New Narrow Dennis Eagle RCVs For East Lothian Council

East Lothian Council has taken delivery of four ‘narrow’ refuse trucks for its waste collection routes, writes Peter Brown.

The new Elite+ ‘Narrow’ vehicles include three 26-tonne rear-steer trucks together with its first 18-tonne variant, which will provide improved safety for the driver as they navigate the narrow lanes and residential areas across the local authority.

Bruce Moffat is the service manager for transport and waste at the council. He said: “It’s the first 18-tonne vehicle we’ve purchased from Dennis Eagle. Previously, we used a DAF for the rural areas but opted for the Elite+ Narrow for a number of reasons.”

The trucks are fitted with Vision Technique’s Six Channel DVR Camera System with 360° vision in real-time together with rear electronic signage and autobrake system. “The low operating noise levels and better fuel economy led us to opt for the electric Terberg bin lift,” he added.

Serving a population of more than 112,000 people, the 22-strong fleet of RCVs complete around 1,400 daily lifts per vehicle from Monday to Friday.
