A96 Dualling Target Ditched

A 2011 commitment by the Scottish government to make the A96 between Inverness and Aberdeen a fully dualled carriageway by 2030 has been ditched, writes Peter Brown.

A challenging economic climate and climate emergency means the promise upgrade 86 miles is ‘delayed’, explained transport secretary Fiona Hyslop, although the government did remain in favour of the project, it was important that communities should have an opportunity to have a say on the final decision.

A new Transport Scotland proposal recommends a reduced dual carriageway bypassing Elgin and Keith in Moray.
