Transport and logistics services provider BPW is urging workshops to implement training programmes to address a shortage of technicians.
Qualified and competent technicians are the backbone of any commercial vehicle workshops and right now the UK has a shortage of these skilled workers.
The consequences of such a shortage will potentially result in longer periods of downtime and difficulty finding a workshop to complete required maintenance and servicing.
Michael Stayman, aftermarket and maintenance network manager at BPW, said: “There is no legislation in place for the training of trailer technicians, so in recent years, we have worked hard to establish a high standard of service and maintenance training that is well-recognised in the industry.”
To combat this skills shortage, BPW offers an axle and suspension service and a maintenance course at its training centre in Leicester.
Conducted over a day, the course covers modules on the BPW eco-hub system, drum and disc braking technology, self-steer axles, and the full range of BPW suspension systems. The course includes practical training and information on diagnostic and replacement techniques.
