West Fraser Europe Keen To Ditch Truck Trips With Rail Switch

It is projected that more than 20,000 HGV journeys would be removed from the road if plans by the Inverness-based manufacturer of eco-friendly wood panels West Fraser Europe to switch to rail are approved.

Reported by the Inverness Courier, West Fraser Europe Ltd, formerly known as Norbord, wants Highland Council planners to approve early stage plans to create a rail sidings yard near its mill just off the A96 by the airport.

The major development is now the subject of a Proposal of Application Notice to be considered by the south planning applications committee.

The August 2024 issue of Transport News looks at access to the Highlands via the A9 and its rail network, and the problems it faces for capacity.
