The founding editor of Transport News Alistair Vallance has now officially retired following his final day at the East Kilbride office (Thursday, 28th March 2024).
It’s been 46 years since he started Transport News in Glasgow with the promise of a double page spread of advertising in each of the first three issues from Mercedes-Benz.
The magazine grew in popularity, and in 1994 it held its first Scottish Rewards presentation breakfast in the Moat House Hotel (now known as the Crowne Plaza). The event was linked to the IRTE Truck Show held in the adjacent SECC..
Alistair also kick started the Northern Rewards, held at the Mercure Hotel in Manchester.
He said: “It has been a tremendously enjoyable and rewarding experience working in all the facets of the road transport industry. I have enough wonderful memories to last me through a long retirement!
“I know the magazine will go from strength to strength with editor Kevin Swallow at the helm aided by Mary Connelly, with Allison Drummond and Evelyn Speirs on production and Emma Tyrer leading the advertising sales team.”
