Continental is pushing it’s tyre ‘recycling’ philosophy so truck operators can demonstrate that they are reducing their impact on the ecosystem, writes Steve Banner.
PRESSURE is mounting on transport fleets to show that they are doing everything they can to minimise their impact on the environment. That can involve everything from switching to drop-in greener alternatives to diesel such as bio-CNG and hydrotreated vegetable oil to mounting solar panels on the workshop roof.
It can also mean recycling; and retreaded tyres have a key role to play when it comes to re-using materials such as oil and rubber, contends manufacturer Continental.
Up to 85% of the content of each of its retreads is made up of recycled material it states, which adds up to a saving of up to 55kg when compared with a new tyre made from scratch.
