With plans to relocate firmly under wraps, north-east based Old Haulage has more than enough to get on with, as Chris Wilson explains to Lucy Radley.
THERE’S A lot more to Tyneside than the city of Newcastle and the Angel of the North. The team at Blaydon based Old Haulage have been doing clever things with lorry mounted cranes since 1978, when Steven Old bought his first crane-equipped wagon to try his luck in a specialist field.
Nowadays it’s his daughter, Amanda Old, at the helm, although her father is still very much involved in the business. “Steve still oversees things,” we’re told by Chris Wilson. He’s officially a traffic planner, but in reality, he serves as Amanda’s next in command.
“I do everything around here!” he laughed. As it happens, Amanda is away when we speak, but we’d have been talking to Chris regardless. He’s just dispatched the boss Steve in a wagon to deliver some bricks.
