Trailer and truck body manufacturers are keen to reduce the carbon footprint for hauliers using nature and kinetic energy, writes Steve Banner.
WITH PROFIT margins under unceasing pressure no haulier will reject free energy, especially if it is environmentally friendly. The rays of the sun tick both of those boxes.
Admittedly sunshine is often in short supply in Britain, but there should be enough to enable solar panels mounted on the roof of a box trailer to help power ancillary equipment such as a tail-lift via a battery which they charge. They may even be able to power a temperature-controlled trailer’s refrigeration system.
While doing so – and unlike a diesel power plant – they will produce no exhaust emissions, and no noise.
