With age comes wisdom, they say. That certainly seems to be the case with Ayrshire-based Maxi Haulage, writes David Craik.
IRVINE-based Maxi Haulage, which has seven depots across Scotland and England, will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year with much of its success down to having a disciplined growth strategy.
“If someone came along with a £30m contract for us tomorrow, I would almost certainly say no,” revealed managing director Alan Miles.
“It would be too big and would bring pressure points to our business that we just don’t need. Our typical new customer would be in the £1m to £8 million range. We have grown sensibly, including ensuring that we fit with our customers’ methodology and culture. We don’t have a one-size fits all approach, even down to the way we charge. We have total flexibility.”
