A zero emissions Renault Trucks D Wide E-Tech with a McPhee Mixer drum has joined the Tarmac fleet. Steve Banner reports.
MOTHERWELL based McPhee Mixers has played a key role in the development of a zero emission all-electric concrete mixer that has joined Tarmac’s 2,500 strong fleet.
Equipped with a 5.8cu.m mixer drum by the North Lanarkshire firm, it has been built on a battery-electric Renault Trucks D Wide E-Tech 6×2 chassis.
The first vehicle of its type to become operational in the UK, it is based at Tarmac’s site at Washwood Heath in Birmingham. Achieving a range of 72 miles between recharges, the 27 tonner makes up to seven deliveries of ready-mix concrete daily around the city, with the drum relying on power from the truck’s traction batteries.
