The Scottish government has finally admitted it will not be possible to upgrade all of the A9 by 2025, as promised more than a decade ago. Chris Tindall looks into what happens now.
AN ADMISSION by the Scottish government that a vital upgrade of the A9 will not be completed on target has been met with ‘shock, incredulity and anger’ by road users in the Highlands, according to an MSP.
The project to dual Scotland’s longest road can be traced as far back as 2008 when the government said improvement works was a priority on a route that was attracting a lot of accidents.
In 2011, a commitment was made to dual the road between Inverness and Perth by 2025; a timescale that even then was described as challenging, but achievable.
