Cabs are vulnerable spots and there is little security equipment dedicated to protecting them.
Jack Carfrae reports.
THAT’S the opening gambit from a YouTube video called Lorry cab security and protection – sleeping safely, by a driver called Mark Pritchard. The footage, shot from his cab, shows a line of trucks and trailers parked up in front of what looks like warehouses.
He goes on to describe a do-it-yourself method he developed in response to his colleague’s misfortune; a strap tied to each door handle, spanning the length of the interior.
“It doesn’t matter how good you are with locks,” he said, “you ain’t getting in, because the door’s held shut.” He keeps a knife – normally used for stripping pallets – in the cab, to cut the strap if he needs to make a quick exit.
