Last year was challenging for the driver agency marketplace but 2023 is set to be a whole lot smoother, according to Driver Hire. David Craik speaks to Rachael McWilliams.
THE NEW Year is a time for looking back as much as looking forward. For Rachael McWilliams, who Transport News caught up with in the early days of 2023, the last 12 months have been wild in more ways than one.
“Twenty-twenty-two was a year which was like no other,” she said succinctly.
That is quite a statement from someone who became operations and development director at Driver Hire Edinburgh covering seven offices – Newcastle, Motherwell, Grangemouth, Fife, the Borders, Edinburgh City and Edinburgh West – in March 2020.
Even three years on she said the Covid pandemic is still impacting industry operations and planning. “Clients looked for normality last year as they emerged from lockdown, but those pre-pandemic business peaks and troughs just didn’t happen,” she explained.
