Hauliers headed to Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh for the Volvo-sponsored Scottish Clean Air Roadshow, which focussed on the rollout of Low Emission Zones that will come into force in four of Scotland’s cities, writes Kevin Swallow.
MUCH HAS been written and speculated on regarding Low Emission Zones (LEZs) in Scotland but so far there has been little concrete information for haulage operators to act upon, short of operating Euro 6 trucks.
The Scottish Government has mandated that Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow introduce rules requiring HGVs to be Euro 6 compliant to enter an LEZ, which is typically a small area in the centre of the city.
Three speakers opened the Volvo-sponsored Scottish Clean Air Roadshow; Vincent McInally, the air quality and environment manager for Transport Scotland; Councillor Scott Arthur, transport and environment convener at City of Edinburgh Council; and Karen Geekie, project lead at the Scottish Government’s Zero Emission Truck Taskforce.
Vincent McInally opened the Scottish Clean Air Roadshow. He said the introduction of LEZs is to help improve the air quality within the four cities.
