Battery electric and hydrogen fuels dominated IAA 2022 in Hanover, Germany with manufacturers demonstrating their zero-tailpipe emission products, writes Gordon Roberts.

TRUCK manufacturers were keen to demonstrate their zero tailpipe emission credentials with an array of alternative fuelled trucks at the huge biennial IAA commercial vehicle show.
Star of the MAN stand was its new eTruck, ready to spearhead the company’s transition to zero emissions. MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp was confident that total cost of ownership of electric heavy trucks will be at parity with diesel by the second half of the decade.
There are some changes to MAN model year 2024 vehicles, applicable to orders now for July 2023 delivery. On the 12.4-litre D26 engine range, all ratings are increased by 10hp, with an extra 50Nm of torque. Also, for model year 2024, TGL and TGM models with the D08 engine will get a new ZF PowerMatic transmission with six or eight ratios.
