After more than 10 years, a permanent solution to a treacherous route through the Highlands still appears to be a long way off. Chris Tindall reports.
IT HAS been dubbed Scotland’s most notorious road and yet the government has been accused of fiddling while Rome burns, as far as a dangerous section of the A83 is concerned.
The Rest And Be Thankful takes in some of the most beautiful scenes Scotland has to offer, but it is also a perilous journey for the thousands of hauliers that traverse the steep ascent on the side of Glen Croe each year.
The government estimates that there are 100,000 tonnes of unstable material waiting to fall and in 2020, 20,000 tonnes did just that, subsequently closing the A83 for 200 days.
