The new XD replaces the CF and DAF Trucks is now accepting orders, with production already underway and it’s got some big boots to fill, writes Gordon Roberts.
THERE IS no doubt DAF Trucks stole a march on its competitors. The new generation XF, and the all-new XG and XG+, took advantage of the recently relaxed Masses and Dimensions legislation. Now DAF has applied the principles to its offering in the middleweight distribution and construction sectors.
The CF, a landmark of the UK road scene for so long, is no more. In its place is the new XD, and its construction derivative, the XDC. The XD has already had a positive start to life, having just been crowned International Truck of the Year 2023.
Gone are the familiar trademark window-in-window and sculpted door panel features, to be replaced by a range of cabs that owe their origins to the modular basis of the larger siblings.
