ANNE-MARIE Trevelyan MP has been appointed as transport secretary under new PM Liz Truss’s reshuffled cabinet.
Previously secretary of state for international trade, Trevelyan tweeted that she was ‘thrilled’ about her new role and added: “Transport is crucial to our lives – bringing people together, creating jobs and connecting the UK with the world. Looking forward to getting to work on the many challenges and opportunities transport brings.”
Berwick-upon-Tweed MP Trevelyan is the first female transport secretary since Justine Greening more than a decade ago. She campaigned for dualling the A1 as far back as 2007 and in 2014 the then PM David Cameron announced an initial £290m investment to upgrade the road.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan replaces Grant Shapps MP, who had held the role of transport secretary since July 2019.
