It’s never been tougher to ship goods into and out of Europe, yet for the team at McLanachan Transport, the demand for UK exports to the EU remains healthy. Damian McLanachan lifts the lid on rising costs and the latest additions to the fleet, reports Kevin Swallow.
WHEN I arrived at the Uddingston yard that belongs to McLanachan Transport, a decent stone’s throw from the M74 as it arcs into Glasgow, the depot was alive with the hum from umpteen refrigeration units.
They are all working well to maintain the correct temperatures before the trailers are put to work. Each dual temperature trailer is plugged into the mains, and it’s the electricity supply, or more specifically, the cost of the electricity supply, that is concerning for Damian McLanachan, like many business owners currently.
With his current agreement for business electricity supply due to expire, its replacement might potentially see a 140% increase in price.
