EVERY SO often a unique event takes place in the Scottish road haulage industry and this year is no exception.
Truckfest Scotland was honoured to use the massive Ingliston arena as a stage to unfold the amazing story of the development of the Malcolm Group which celebrates its centenary this year, writes Alistair Vallance.
There’s a popular saying that great oak trees evolve from little acorns and, for the acorn in this story, the Truckfest Scotland crowds were asked to think back to the 6th and 7th of August 1922, not long after the First World War. On that very weekend a certain coalman in Renfrewshire was plying his delivery round with his horse and cart.
That coalman went by the name of William Hattrick Malcolm. Yes, the initials of WH Malcolm emblazoned on a fabulous fleet of 12 trucks many extracted for this unique occasion from the Donald Malcolm Heritage Centre at Linwood.
