Vehicle checks and good maintenance, that’s the key for operators buying trucks with higher mileage, writes Steve Banner, as used truck dealers keep an eye on the horizon.
AS THE UK heads into the autumn stock shortages and sky-high prices may not be bedevilling the used truck sector to quite the extent that they were at the start of the year. But it remains under pressure, however.
Neil Willis, Renault Trucks’ acting used truck director, said: “We’re seeing an average of 40 ex-contract trucks come back to us every month at present compared with the 100 or so a month we were seeing in the past. Furthermore, most of what is being returned to us was originally scheduled to come back a year ago.”
Long waits for new vehicles to be delivered have obliged operators to ask for contract extensions so they can hang on to the ones they have already got until their replacements arrive.
